- 2. GETTING STARTED
-
- Load and run the file called "boot 9.3" to start the program. Once
- the main program is loaded, a title screen with a shareware notice is
- displayed while various subprograms are loaded. When the title screen
- disappears and a menu of options is displayed on the screen, you are
- ready to begin. This initial list of options is called the "main
- menu", and it is referred to as such throughout this documentation.
-
-
- 2.1 Menu selection
-
- To select a menu item, use the up/down cursor key to move the menu bar
- up and down. When the bar is highlighting the item you want, press
- the return key to select it. You may also select an item by pressing
- the number that corrseponds to the item, even though the numbers are
- not displayed on the menus.
-
- Many of the items on the main menu display other menus when selected.
- Use the same method to select items on all menus in Novaterm. The F1
- key always selects the last item on a menu. In most cases, this
- returns you to the previous menu or the main menu.
-
-
- 2.2 Modules
-
- Modules are used to compensate for the small amount of memory in the
- Commodore 64. All of the various module files could not possibly fit
- into the computer's memory at the same time. Only one of each type of
- module is kept in memory at a time. For example, if you have the
- Xmodem protocol loaded, it resides in memory until you select another
- protocol. Modules make it very easy to add a new protocol or support
- a new modem or terminal emulation. By simply adding a new module with
- the proper module prefix Novaterm's capabilities are expanded.
-
- Since there are so many kinds of module files, there's no telling what
- came with your copy of the program. A complete list of files released
- with Novaterm 9.3 is provided below as a check against your copy.
