  1.                        2. GETTING STARTED

  3. Load and run the file called "boot 9.3" to start the program.  Once
  4. the main program is loaded, a title screen with a shareware notice is
  5. displayed while various subprograms are loaded.  When the title screen
  6. disappears and a menu of options is displayed on the screen, you are
  7. ready to begin.  This initial list of options is called the "main
  8. menu", and it is referred to as such throughout this documentation.

  11. 2.1  Menu selection
  12.  
  13. To select a menu item, use the up/down cursor key to move the menu bar
  14. up and down.  When the bar is highlighting the item you want, press
  15. the return key to select it.  You may also select an item by pressing
  16. the number that corrseponds to the item, even though the numbers are
  17. not displayed on the menus.

  19. Many of the items on the main menu display other menus when selected.
  20. Use the same method to select items on all menus in Novaterm.  The F1
  21. key always selects the last item on a menu.  In most cases, this
  22. returns you to the previous menu or the main menu.

  25. 2.2  Modules
  26.  
  27. Modules are used to compensate for the small amount of memory in the
  28. Commodore 64.  All of the various module files could not possibly fit
  29. into the computer's memory at the same time.  Only one of each type of
  30. module is kept in memory at a time.  For example, if you have the
  31. Xmodem protocol loaded, it resides in memory until you select another
  32. protocol.  Modules make it very easy to add a new protocol or support
  33. a new modem or terminal emulation.  By simply adding a new module with
  34. the proper module prefix Novaterm's capabilities are expanded.

  36. Since there are so many kinds of module files, there's no telling what
  37. came with your copy of the program.  A complete list of files released
  38. with Novaterm 9.3 is provided below as a check against your copy.
